*sigh* Those poooor corporations
Mar. 25th, 2012 12:08 pmSouth Carolina Governor Nikki Haley wants to get rid of the "massive" corporate income tax of 5% in South Carolina.
Because doing so will bring jobs here.
Uh huh.
Look, South Carolina already has a lower corporate income tax than it's neighbors AND the tax only applies (thanks to a 2007 law) to sales within the state (at least if you're a multi-state or multi-national company), so it's not like there's this gigantic, unwarranted burden on corporations here anyway.
But she must have believed Romney's bullshit, hook, line and sinker, when he said that 'Corporations are people'.

Interesting...
Mar. 8th, 2012 10:05 amGot no backup source for this, but it appears that South Carolina's Lt. Governor, Ken Ard... might be about to resign from office. (He's had this ongoing criminal probe into his campaign finances.)
Good luck with that, chief
Mar. 6th, 2012 03:22 pmLaurens County Republicans need to be all this and a bag of chips to get on the ballot.
... Yeah. This is the state I live in. Thankfully, not the county I live in, though.

Yes, my state government is indeed considering a bill that would block new education standards in reading and math here in South Carolina.
.....
I got nothing.
.....
I got nothing.
SC Governor Nikki Haley ordered the SC Legislature to return to work to wrap up some key items on her agenda. One of the legislators sued to not return to work. The SC Supreme Court agreed with the legislator.
Mind you, they are still coming back on June 14th, and they may well take up the points Haley wants taken care of, but the point still stands... that a SC state senator sued to have a weeks vacation.

Because all the other problems in South Carolina have been solved, the state legislature is now moving to deal with the federal assault on states' lights. (Pun intended.)
In these tough economic times
Sep. 28th, 2010 01:47 pmsome programs are being cut by the state government.
Like say, a jobs placement program.
..... I got nothing.

There's this rather abhorrent practice called "bear baying", here in South Carolina, apparently the only state in the U.S. where it is still legal.
Basically, you capture a bear (usually a cub), de-claw it, remove most of it's teeth, and then have it chained, and let dogs attack it, although not to death (usually) because then you'd have to get another bear.
Disgusted yet?
The particular asshats who practice this and the fans of it (of course there are fans of it. This is South Carolina, after all.) call it hunter training for the dogs.
Yeah....
Because, you know, when (oh please, if) those dogs are out being used in hunting other bears, out in the wild, those bears will be kind and considerate enough not to use their claws or teeth.
So basically, the excuse these drooling fuck-widgets use is a poor one.
And there's no way this can be made illegal until at least 2011, because the earliest time to pre-file legislation to outlaw this crap is December.

uh... okay
Jun. 16th, 2010 09:18 amJake Knotts (the guy who referred to Barack Obama and Nikki Haley as 'ragheads' is proud to be stereotyped as a redneck.
Somehow, I don't think you're going to get added to Jeff Foxworthy's list, asshole.

Stay classy Republicans
Jun. 4th, 2010 01:58 pmS.C. State Senator Jake Knotts not only calls President Obama a raghead, but also calls Nikki Haley (a fellow Republican) a raghead. Excuse me, he actually said "fucking raghead".
You see, Nikki Haley is running for the Republican nomination for Governor. So is Andre Bauer, who coincidentally, has the support of Jake Knotts.
Of course, he's now claiming that it was all intended in jest.
BULLSHIT.
Fuck you, Jake Knotts. Fuck you.

Apr. 21st, 2010 01:01 pmArizona looking to claim 'dumbest fucking state' from South Carolina in requiring a review of all Presidential candidates' birth certificates. It's not law yet, but it could be....
Don't worry, South Carolinians, our state Senate is working on a similar bill.

Not surprised
Feb. 19th, 2010 12:50 amState lawmaker crams his head up ass; wants South Carolina to stop using U.S currency and return to gold and silver.
What a shock. A fucking idiot in the state legislature.

Do what now?
Feb. 10th, 2010 09:45 pmNo joke: South Carolina now requires ’subversives’ to register
Okay, let me see if I have this right. If you're a subversive group planning on overthrowing the United States government, you have to register with the South Carolina Secretary of State. (Apparently, each member has to register individually.) There's a $5 filing fee. Presumably, this only applies if you're setting up shop in South Carolina, not if you're trying to overthrow Yanqui imperialism in, say, Georgia.
If you don't register, and they catch you here in South Carolina, there's up to a $25,000 fine and 10 years in the pokey.
If you do register.... what happens then? Do they just stamp the form, and say "Have a nice day!"? (To which the subversive should reply "Thank you, capitalistic dog!") Or do they immediately turn you over to the Feds?
Please note: South Carolina is also one of the states that requires drug dealers to declare their income from illegal drug sales or face additional penalties if and when they are caught.

Not shocked at all
Jan. 28th, 2010 03:07 pmSouth Carolina passes "guilty until proven guilty" law.
On probation or parole? You too can be searched without cause or a warrant!
And I'm not shocked that it passed unanimously. No politician wants to look soft on crime.
Edit: And no, I'm not soft on crime either. You do the crime, you do the time. But requiring warrants for searches has existed for a reason. And we all know that no cops in this state would ever, EVER abuse this ability to do a warrantless search of someone on probation/parole. EVER.
