Damnit...
Looks like Mark Sanford won the election. It seems that the people of SC District 1 would rather elect a lying philanderer and make the state a laughingstock again, than take a chance of electing a Democrat.

*sigh* Those poooor corporations
South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley wants to get rid of the "massive" corporate income tax of 5% in South Carolina.
Because doing so will bring jobs here.
Uh huh.
Look, South Carolina already has a lower corporate income tax than it's neighbors AND the tax only applies (thanks to a 2007 law) to sales within the state (at least if you're a multi-state or multi-national company), so it's not like there's this gigantic, unwarranted burden on corporations here anyway.
But she must have believed Romney's bullshit, hook, line and sinker, when he said that 'Corporations are people'.

Interesting...
Got no backup source for this, but it appears that South Carolina's Lt. Governor, Ken Ard... might be about to resign from office. (He's had this ongoing criminal probe into his campaign finances.)

Good luck with that, chief
Laurens County Republicans need to be all this and a bag of chips to get on the ballot.
... Yeah. This is the state I live in. Thankfully, not the county I live in, though.

Yes, my state government is indeed considering a bill that would block new education standards in reading and math here in South Carolina.
.....
I got nothing.

I'd say "only in South Carolina", but it's probably happened elsewhere
SC Governor Nikki Haley ordered the SC Legislature to return to work to wrap up some key items on her agenda. One of the legislators sued to not return to work. The SC Supreme Court agreed with the legislator.
Mind you, they are still coming back on June 14th, and they may well take up the points Haley wants taken care of, but the point still stands... that a SC state senator sued to have a weeks vacation.

Because all the other problems in South Carolina have been solved, the state legislature is now moving to deal with the federal assault on states' lights. (Pun intended.)

In these tough economic times
some programs are being cut by the state government.
Like say, a jobs placement program.

So...
There's this rather abhorrent practice called "bear baying", here in South Carolina, apparently the only state in the U.S. where it is still legal.
Basically, you capture a bear (usually a cub), de-claw it, remove most of it's teeth, and then have it chained, and let dogs attack it, although not to death (usually) because then you'd have to get another bear.
Disgusted yet?
The particular asshats who practice this and the fans of it (of course there are fans of it. This is South Carolina, after all.) call it hunter training for the dogs.
Yeah....
Because, you know, when (oh please, if) those dogs are out being used in hunting other bears, out in the wild, those bears will be kind and considerate enough not to use their claws or teeth.
So basically, the excuse these drooling fuck-widgets use is a poor one.
And there's no way this can be made illegal until at least 2011, because the earliest time to pre-file legislation to outlaw this crap is December.

Jake Knotts (the guy who referred to Barack Obama and Nikki Haley as 'ragheads' is proud to be stereotyped as a redneck.
Somehow, I don't think you're going to get added to Jeff Foxworthy's list, asshole.

Stay classy Republicans
S.C. State Senator Jake Knotts not only calls President Obama a raghead, but also calls Nikki Haley (a fellow Republican) a raghead. Excuse me, he actually said "fucking raghead".
You see, Nikki Haley is running for the Republican nomination for Governor. So is Andre Bauer, who coincidentally, has the support of Jake Knotts.
Of course, he's now claiming that it was all intended in jest.
BULLSHIT.
Fuck you, Jake Knotts. Fuck you.

Don't worry, South Carolinians, our state Senate is working on a similar bill.
