Well, there you go

Dick Lugar, the longest-serving Republican in the Senate, has been defeated in the Indiana Republican primary by the Tea Party-backed Richard Mourdock.

Apparently, choosing Mourdock over Lugar is a huge win for conservatives, because Lugar would, on occasion, work with Democrats. (I know, what an asshole!)

And... *sigh* as expected, North Carolina became the latest state to ban gay marriage. Some North Carolina voters apparently expect that gay marriage will cause the economy to stay in the crapper, take their tobacco subsidies, and shoot their dogs.

People keep asking me why I don't want to live in the south. Or the midwest. HEY LOOK, SHINING HUGE ANSWER!

Every time you describe a work shift of the people who come in off the street where you live, I sympathize.

I tried. I really, really tried to live happily in the south. First in Florida, then in Kentucky.

I'm just plain happier up here. Less stress. Less outright bigotry and assholism.

I loved living in Kentucky as long as I don't have to interact with a lot of the other people living there. *twitch* And dating opportunities were limited across the board, considering I'm related to most families in that area.

Florida = bad, but Gainesville equalled very tolerable. I couldn't hack it after living in New York, though. It was too damn hot.

I HATE Atlanta. I enjoy driving through it on I-75 at high speed, but the times I've had to go through the city itself, I was not comfortable, I was not happy, and I wanted to GTFO of there.

So now I have the mix of cold weather, living in a small town with good internet connection, with Portland, ME less than 1.5 hours away. (I made it in 1 hour and 10 minutes the other day. I win at driving.)

I have actually never done anything more strenuous than driving through N & S Carolina. I think there was a hotel room or two, but I don't remember much of either state except trees. Savannah, Georgia, though, I dug muchly on my one visit there.
