Frankly, I think he's going to do terrible come primary season. He doesn't even have the name recognition of Newt Gingrich. I see both of them bowing out after losing the first few primaries. (Might take Newt a primary or two after Barbour to get the hint.)
Newt's getting some steam behind him, sickeningly enough, but right now there's no shining star really, people's interests are too fractured. You've got the moderates who are looking to Romney, hoping to fuck he doesn't go Tea Party, you've got the Tea Party candidates who are looking at Bachmann, Palin, or any other number of people, you've got the rich and super rich fuckers who might be considering Trump because he's one of their own, you've got Newt who I think is working the evangelical angel, and you've got Santorum who is off screaming in the corner, believing he's somehow still relevant.
I think 2012 is going to be a fucking BRUTAL primary that's going to make Romney and McCain's fucking of Huckabee look like a gentle massage.
Let's be honest, though... as much as they might want to win the nomination, Trump, Bachmann, Palin and Santorum stand no fucking chance whatsoever. The best any of them can hope for is the VP nomination for 2012, and Trump won't be on the ticket if he can't lead, so that pretty much counts him out. In a like manner, Palin as a VP nomination again is pretty damn unlikely, not to mention a probable kiss of death. (Same for Bachmann, who is trying to out-Tea Party Palin.)
The fact that Romney is a Mormon is going to cause enough people to shy away from him where it's going to be difficult (but not impossible) for him to get enough primaries under his belt.
Barbour and Gingrich are going to find it tough playing outside of the South (although Gingrich will probably do better at it). If Mark Sanford (former Governor of South Carolina) hadn't had an affair, I wouldn't have been surprised to see him run, but oooooops.
Huckabee has a shot at it, but he needs to start building some steam up if he's really going to go for it.
