Cry "Havoc" and let loose the whiney bastards....

Well, the rules-vampire list has started.

Let's all proceed to bitch about minutiae while ignoring the obvious problems.

welcome to the camarilla...

what more did you want?

Oh, I don't know....

Really fixing the Caitiff rules so that if they suck as degraded and scorned members of a vampiric society, it's because of role-playing, not because someone changed the fucking rules.

Fixing the Tremere. (Yes, I mean snipping their balls off.)

Out and out saying "Status Traits? Fuck it, worthless system anyway."

Getting rid of WAT.

Getting rid of the concept of 'Puissance Proof weapons'.

Those would be a nice start.

I'd also like them to wake up and realize that merits are just that... merits... Why should they not boost traits during disp. tests??

And i dunno about your region, but GL doesn't have puissance "proof" weapons... We just have puissance resistant weapons... makes more sense to me...

And maybe a rules team NOT made up of crack snorting monkey... that would be nice too...

Spoken like the clueless gobshite that you are, I guess.

Funny, watching you insult people until you realize who they are.

Already started on the Caitiff rules... suggestion: Caitiff pay OOC cost for everything. Caitiff can learn any of the "common eight" disciplines without a teacher up to Generation maximums.

Easy, clean, closer to TT than before. Good compromise.

As for the Tremere, I think they're all right.

Status Traits? Well, I think my proposal that got the US ANST C/A to try a line item saying that they're not referred to ICily is a start.

No WAT? I'm down for the +5, but I don't think we could change MET that much.

Nuking Puissance Proof weapons? I'm with you there. :)

I think they had the right idea... open the list with a new draft, take suggestions, close, think of the suggestions taken, reopen with a new draft, lather, rinse, repeat.

Hrm... I prefer my idea (what a shock, that I think my idea is the shit and all...)

Caitiff choose three Disciplines at creation. They must app for these as if they were going for Out of Clan Disciplines at creation, so if a Caitiff player wants to start with Protean, Chimerstry, and Valeran, it's two High Approvals and a Top Approval. OTOH, if they want some nice Low Approval Caitiff, they can choose three of the common Disciplines.

They pay 4/7/10 for all Disciplines.

They can learn the three Disciplines they chose to the limit of their Generation.

Your idea works, but it's more complicated than mine... and if it's one thing I've learned, it's that Rules Team perfers simplicity.

That, and no High or Top approval ST would ever approve something like that. Ever.

Re: Oh, I don't know....

[identity profile] kierthos.livejournal.com 2002-12-21 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
That's the point. If a player wants to try and make a Caitiff character that starts play with two High and one Top approval disciplines, they are welcome to try. They probably won't (and shouldn't) get far, but the option should be there other then the oh so 'sacred' cop-out of "Anything can be had for Top Approval."

Frankly, what I suggested is intended for those examples of Caitiff who have Protean, or Chimerstry, or Serpentis, or Obtenebration.... it's intended to improve the flexibility of playing a Caitiff. (And no, I don't think letting Caitiff choose from the so-called 8 common Disciplines is flexible. It's another cop-out.)

But they're already welcome to try. Top Approval.

And no, it's not a cop out. A Caitiff that wants to enter play with Top Approval Disciplines would require Top Approval under your scenario. Under the current one, it would require... Top Approval. What's the difference?

Flexibility usually equals Gumby, in our fan club. We don't need gumby.

From LotN:R

"If you are Caitiff, you may simply choose any three Basic Disciplines desired, but your Storyteller may restrict you to the eight most common Disciplines - Animalism, Auspex, Celerity, Dominate, Fortitude, Obfuscate, Potence or Presence - unless you have an exceptional reason for learning a more specialized power."

In our fan club, the ST has so restricted, unless you have an exceptional reason. If you do... that's what the approval process is for.

What's so bad with that?

With you everything except the non potence proof stuff.

Flesh is squishy.

I'd add discipline learning into the mix as a problem.

Everything else is just....minor!

[identity profile] kierthos.livejournal.com 2002-12-17 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
No, you see... I don't believe that we need Puissance resistant / Puissance proof items because flesh is squishy. If you're hitting someone with a metal baseball bat, they will deform (bruise, break, die) before the bat does. When you throw supernatural strength into the mix, it just means you're doing that much more damage.

Oh, and before someone inevitably brings up the fact that major league baseball players break wooden bats all the time, most combats do not involve hitting a baseball traveling at 90+ mph for a potential home run.

Unless you're deliberately using a shitty weapon with your character, it shouldn't be an issue.
