What a twist! (No, not really)
So, it turns out that there are Republicans who are against Net Neutrality. One of them being Jim DeMint (R-SC).
Let's see. AT&T, Comcast, and Verizon are opposed to Net Neutrality. Let's see how much they've donated to good ol' Jim.
According to the FEC disclosure report, between 2003 to 2009 (this apparently covers through the 2008 campaign... the 2009 donations seem to be pretty early in the year), he's gotten the following amounts from various and sundry PAC groups.
AT&T: $29,500
Bellsouth*: $13,000
Comcast: $11,500
CTIA (Cellular Telephone Industries Association): $9,500
NCTA (National Cable and Telecommunications Association): $12,000
Qualcomm: $5,000
Qwest: $10,500
Sprint Nextel: $7,500
T-Mobile: $7,000
Time Warner Cable: $10,000
Verisign: $5,500
Verizon: $13,000
Now, that's spread over several years.
According to Open Secrets (which seems to be more up to date) he's managed to get around $300 grand from Communications/Electronics organizations just for the 2010 election. And here we see that over $60,000 has been from AT&T (through individual donations or PACs). Comcast has acquired $26,500 worth of Senator DeMint...
Yeah.... what a shock that he's opposed to Net Neutrality.
Think I'm going to send an e-mail to my Senator and ask why he's opposed... see what the "official" reason is.
