Intriguing
And possibly quite stupid... Senator Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, will testify on his own behalf in his corruption trial.
Did I say quite stupid? I did.
This actually goes beyond "quite stupid" to potentially "the dumbest thing Ted Stevens has ever done". And this is the man who brought us the phrase 'an Internet was sent by my staff'.
Now, he can't be compelled to testify against himself, but you know that if the prosecuting attorney is even halfway on his game, and not delibitated by the flu or the moose pox, or whatever disgusting diseases they have up in Alaska (what? It's not being held in Alaska? In DC? God, that's worse. All those... *shudder* politicians...), he's going to ask questions that Stevens isn't going to want to answer.
What can Stevens do? Well, he can refuse to answer some or all of the questions asked him on the grounds that it would incriminate himself. Note that the Fifth Amendment is not all inclusive, so it's possible that Stevens' own testimony on one question could lead to him being forced to answer.
Still, it's not the brightest move.
But it damn well could lead to some Daily Show highlights.

Though my magic 8-ball is saying the likelihood of hearing a lot of "I don't recalls" in response to some questions is pretty high.
