I don't suppose there's such a thing as an electric blanket that cools instead of heats?

Probably not.

Get one of these: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=12334338

Literally the best $60 you can spend if you don't have air-con.

I have a window a/c unit in my bedroom. It just doesn't work very well during the summer.

That's supplied by the appartment complex. If it doesn't work, you bitch at them until they fix it.

Not these. These were the ones that Tony and Rob had when I moved in. I save like $30-$50 a month on not using theirs (I'll have to check to see how much). However, given how it's not working very well, I might see if I can get this one swapped out, pay a few extra bucks a month and have actual comfort in my apartment again.

Check / clean the filter. You'll be surprised at how much better it works.

The problem comes in where do you put the heat? An electric blanket is basicly turning electricity into heat, and you can make an electric blanket that moves heat around some (cooling one side while heating the other) at a net increase in heat... but nothing that just removes heat and turns it into something else.

Even air conditioners raise the heat on the outside in favor of cooling on the inside.

Damn you and damn your laws of thermodynamics. :P

Thermodynamics - it's not just a good idea, it's the Law.

Bah!

You fill it with a thin layer of water, hook that to a cooling pump and plug the sucker in.

But I've never seen one outside of a hospital.

Yes, there is. But the only place I've ever seen them is hospitals.
