South Carolina seeks to outlaw profanity
Well, not all profanity. Just profanity in a public area or accomadation which could be read/heard/made available to minors. But it's not just profanity either:
And the penalties for being convicted of this (and it's being proposed as a felony)... up to five years in prison and/or up to a $5000 fine.
Damn, that's a stiff penalty. It's the same level of penalty as threatening a public official.
Think about that. Dropping the f-bomb in public, where a child could hear it, is the same punishment as telling (hypothetically) a public official that you're going to kick his ass.
I really hate this state sometimes.

It is unlawful for a person in a public forum or place of public accommodation wilfully and knowingly to publish orally or in writing, exhibit, or otherwise make available material containing words, language, or actions of a profane, vulgar, lewd, lascivious, or indecent nature.Seriously, what the fuck? Do they honestly think that this will change anything if it passes and gets signed by the governor? Don't the police have better things to do then be the "naughty-words" police? You know, like arresting real goddamned criminals? Oh no, we have to make sure innocent minds aren't corrupted by swearing or someone saying the word "vagina" in public.
