I think I've got this shit figured out

Every so often, I get a phone call from "out of area". Most of these end up being nothing but clicking noises (no, not a fax machine, I know what that sounds like).

These are usually followed days later by calls from annoying shits trying to sell me services because "I signed up for it somewhere".

I'm guessing the first set of calls are robo-callers checking to make sure the number is valid. And since I pick up the phone and answer it, then I get added to a list which is then subsequently sold to a variety of sales-asshats.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to actually talk to a goddamned Bellsouth technical support person. Their automated phone system doesn't seem to fucking recognize the concept that I (or any one of their customers) might want to talk to a real live person.

Fortunately, I think I have found a way around this, and have disabled anonymous calling on my phone. If this works, hooray. If it doesn't work, I'm going to start sending nasty letters to Bellsouth.

There is a way to stop it

Ok, here's what you do.It sucks, but if you aren't subscribed already to Bellsouth's "premium service packages," get one. They offer one I know, that has caller-id block prevention. That way if the number is blocked, or simply unidentified ,it won't get through.I have had to deal with this myself. My cell phone actually has a very nice feature where I can just block numbers with no extra gimmicks to be purchased.Bellsouth basically stinks as far as service goes.I could tell you stories but doubt you are interested in it.Hope this helps.
