Jan. 23rd, 2005 02:51 pmJust finished watching Hero. Damn glad I didn't see it in theaters, because I would have gone to jail after killing the rednecks who didn't get what the movie was about. You see, when I saw Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in the theater, there were people who obviously did not know what they were supposed to be getting in the movie. They were expecting a chop-socky movie, not Wu Xia. (Not that there's anything wrong with more action-oriented martial arts movies, or the very humourous combat scenes that Jackie Chan pulls off in every film he's in. It's just a different style.)
A very good movie, IMAO. Can't wait to see House of Flying Daggers, although I suspect I will have to wait for the DVD so I don't have the burden of watching it in the local theaters. (As one last example of hideously stupid some of locals are, when I saw the first Lord of the Rings movie in the theater, people left asking "Is that it?" and "What happens next?" Some of them were genuinely surprised when I mentioned that it was going to be a trilogy and demanded to know how I knew. My reponse was "I've read the books." They also seemed genuinely shocked that there were books.)
