Just finished watching Hero. Damn glad I didn't see it in theaters, because I would have gone to jail after killing the rednecks who didn't get what the movie was about. You see, when I saw Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in the theater, there were people who obviously did not know what they were supposed to be getting in the movie. They were expecting a chop-socky movie, not Wu Xia. (Not that there's anything wrong with more action-oriented martial arts movies, or the very humourous combat scenes that Jackie Chan pulls off in every film he's in. It's just a different style.)

A very good movie, IMAO. Can't wait to see House of Flying Daggers, although I suspect I will have to wait for the DVD so I don't have the burden of watching it in the local theaters. (As one last example of hideously stupid some of locals are, when I saw the first Lord of the Rings movie in the theater, people left asking "Is that it?" and "What happens next?" Some of them were genuinely surprised when I mentioned that it was going to be a trilogy and demanded to know how I knew. My reponse was "I've read the books." They also seemed genuinely shocked that there were books.)

I've seen hero some time back from DVD (I don't like going to movies jsut because of the people) and it's most beautiful movie I have ever seen. House of flying daggers was good too. I'm such a huge fan of asian movies, always have been but they just keep getting better and better. Luckily we also get a shit load of asian movies here in rental places, theatres and shops.

You might have a look at yesasia.com for movies. Don't know if you have a multi-region DVD, but its a godsent if you do. I get alot of movies there long before they come out here on DVD.

Hero is amazing. Its too bad you couldn't see it on the big screen. It was sooooo georgous.

Yeah, but if I'd watched it on the big screen, I would have had to hear some idiot redneck say "How can they fly?" and shit like that, and I would have had to kill them.

Which isn't a bad idea, mind you... removing stupidity from the breeding pool. But why do it on such a small scale?

You always did prefer to think BIG.

I took my fifteen year old brother to see House of Flying Daggers this past weekend. The kid adored it, and was thoroughly pissed at the people who laughed inappropriately at stuff they couldn't understand.

Sit in the front. It helps get away from that.

I loved both of those movies, btw. If you liked Hero, try to catch Flying Daggers.
