I have just seen a trailer for the remake of Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Earlier posts reveal my views on remakes.

Now, mind you, I think Depp is a good actor, and I loved Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, where he stole the entire damn movie away from everyone else in the film.

However... is Wonka supposed to come across as a closet pedophile? I mean, seriously, I saw a 30-second trailer and I was like, damn. Kids, you need an adult.

He reminded me of Angela Lansbury on Lithium. Crossed with that alarming older fashion editor from the original Old Navy ads. You know, the older woman with the particularly owl-like spectacles?
I didn't think "pedophilia" as much as "locks children up in old trunks that smell of mothballs, and stacks them in the attic ten deep"
