what the hell

Scan my interest list and pick out the one that seems the most odd to you. Leave a comment asking me about it, and I’ll explain it.

Then post this in your journal so other people can ask you about your interests.

sons of ether

The Sons of Ether are a Tradition of Mages from the White Wolf game Mage: The Ascension. (A Tradition, in the terminology of the game, are a group of Mages who operate only similar lines and beliefs of how magic works, or at least how it works for them.)

The Sons of Ether do not consider themselves Mages. They consider themselves Enlightened Scientists, and that they are performing acts of science and technology that the world is not generally ready for. Whereas other Mages might wave magic wands, or chant in strange languages, a Son of Ether is likely to use laboratory equipment and strange ray guns to get the same effects.

Basically, I've always liked science that was a little bit wierd, and the Sons of Ether are considered "Mad Scientists" by everyone who knows of them, so it seemed a fit. (According to the White Wolf cosmology, Dr. Frankenstein was a Son of Ether.)

AD&D stands for Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, which is a Role-playing game. (actually, it hasn't been called AD&D in years, but I'm a lazy bastard who never got around to calling it just D&D)

In (mostly) simple terms, it's a high-fantasy game, with magic, monsters, and in some ways, far, far too many rules. It contains a number of the standard fantasy genre standards (think Tolkein and you aren't far off... D&D ripped off a lot of ideas from Tolkein), and is probably one of the better selling Role-playing games in the world.

The current version of D&D uses something called the d20 system, which they have made an Open Source System (so the basic mechanics are free for any other game company to use), which has caused a lot of game companies to make their own d20 books.

does it have anything to do with miniature gaming?

Nope.

Solid Modeling is (the way I mean it) the design of parts in a computer program to simulate the way they would be in real life. Basically, it's three-dimensional modeling of parts to make sure everything fits together the way they are supposed to.

I learned sumthink new!
