Evolution is a crock

Don't take that to mean that I don't believe in evolution. I do. I believe that life will evolve to fill an ecological niche, to better support itself in its surroundings, etc.

I just don't think it's all that it's cracked up to be.

Let's take a look at a chimpanzee:

What does it take to keep a chimp happy? One would assume food, a mate, and shelter from inclement weather. Probably not much else.

What does it take to keep me happy? A hell of a lot more. Food, shelter, decent tv programs, good books, computer games, a nice internet connection, cute redheads in french maid outfits, I could go on and on...

That's the problem with an evolved intelligence. We get bored. I mean, you never see a chimp sitting around twiddling his thumbs, do you?

Sometimes, I think things would have been a lot better off if we'd never come out of the trees.

well...

"I mean, you never see a chimp sitting around twiddling his thumbs, do you?"

Ignoring that a chimp couldn't twiddle it's thumbs, due to them not being apposable...

You make a good point...

:P

Someone is nitpicking, I think you'd do well with chimps picking out the mites or whatever they have ;).

But... they do have opposable thumbs...

No, they don't...

They do not have the physiology to perform the act of opposition, to cross the thumb across the palm of the hand...

Touch your thumb to the spot under your pinky finger... That's what "opposable thumb" means you can do...

A chimp can't do that on his own. You can bend it for them, I think, but on their own, they can't...

Yes they do (http://www.projectprimate.org/chimps/naturalhistory.shtml). Fourth paragraph, last few sentences.
