The programs bar *IS* the quicklaunch bar, now. You right-click them and choose Pin this Program.

The problem with "Pin this program" is that it puts them down as separate bar sections.

As long as you like leaving the windows collapsed together and you prefer "peek" to "just click directly on the correct window", then pinning actually has a bunch of good things going for it.

I hate those two. So yeah, I put the quicklaunch bar back.

Yeah, I just created a "taskbar" folder on the desktop, and put all the shortcuts to the programs I want to quick launch in there, and added that to the taskbar. Works fine.
