Semi-random thoughts
As I write this, I can still hear the occassional firework go off. Amazing considering not only the hour, but also the brief and violent storm that went through just a few hours ago.
Independence Day. A day to celebrate the severing of ties from a tyrannical government imposing its' will upon people who have no say in said government. Then it was the colonists kicking the British out. Now, it's little more then the ignition of colorful incindiary devices. Mind you, fireworks are pretty, but let's face some facts.
Our current government is far, far worse then what the colonists had to put up with from the British. We have OSHA regulations that make no sense (okay, some that do make sense too), vast amounts of wasted tax-money, and well, the less said about the current jack-ass in office, the better, for my ulcer if nothing else.
In a post some time ago, I jokingly compared one of the Democratic candidates to the Smiler (from Warren Ellis' Transmetropolitan. Physically, or at for the purposes of the pictures I used, sure. Close indeed. In terms of what's going on, I think Bush is much closer to the Smiler, fucking with people just because he can.
I wonder if it's too late to try and talk the British into taking us back...

Personally, when November rolls around and I go to vote, if Kermit the Frog or Animal is on the presidential ticket, that's who I freaking voting for.
If they are not, I am not voting for anyone, I will find someone to vote against.
