Funny how that works...

1) Indiana Republican sponsors bill to require drug tests for welfare recipients.

2) Indiana Democrat amends bill to also require drug tests for state legislators.

3) Indiana Republican withdraws bill.

Again with the predictability. One rule for those in poverty and another for those...not.

Just like a common thief may be sentenced to five years in general population prison, but Arthur Andersen merely had its right to practice and CPA licenses revoked because of their involvement with the Enron scandal.

Personally, I think that if people receiving unemployment and/or welfare benefits are going to be routinely drug-tested, then so should everyone else in this country. Whether they're receiving taxpayer-funded benefits or not. But aside from that, there are two main reasons why drug-testing benefits recipients is ridiculous: 1) somewhat debatably, it's unethical according to the fourth Amendment; and 2) way to RAISE the cost of providing taxpayer-funded benefits while not actually helping people.
