First-off, someone writing the article needs to decide whether it's a "floating" island or an "oil-rig-type" structure.

Second-off, if they're discouraging entrepreneurs from going to college, I wonder how long the thing'll stnad. A background in basic physics would be nice.

Actually, one of my happy own pasttimes is hunting for seamounts on GoogleEarth where the ocean is less than a hundred feet deep. There's one plateau where it's like in the single digits. I've told my husband, "Ooh, forget this country and Canada both; let's just build our own island!"
Lacking a Powerball win, of course, my ideas remain in the realm of silly daydreams..

So what would they actually produce? Or is it just some kind of retirement village / biodome type of thing?

I wonder how they'll eat.

Keeping in mind most of the Galt type Libertarians consider themselves "big thinker" kind of people... not farming type of people.

Or, put more succinctly:

Prolly just thinks he can make a tax-free zone. Good luck.

Every time so billjillioniare tries this they're always nuts. Howard Hughes style. They dump tons of money into insane projects that go under, just like Rapture.

Reminds me of that nut who spent something like his whole life and fortune in the 50's trying to create a gated community/province that was entirely devoted to drinking.
