Ohio House of Representative Republicans, having solved every other problem in their state...

have passed a bill that would outlaw abortion for fetuses as young as six weeks old, with no exceptions for rape, incest or the life or health of the mother.

It is of note that the Ohio Right to Life group has expressed concerns about this bill. As in, it's going to be a giant waste of taxpayer money defending it in court, where it's pretty damned certain to be overturned as unconstitutional.

Six weeks? grrr.

I've seen ultra-sounds that were later than that and the "child" doesn't even have legs yet. It looks like a tadpole.

Tell me about it; I've miscarried at 10 weeks and fished the remains out of the bowl so that asinine military docs couldn't tell me it was "just your period, dear"....and yeah, doesn't look much like anything remotely viably human.

I sympathize with what must have been a vaguely horrifying thing, and am setting those doctors on fire in retrospect.

This.

Thanks. I got over the horror and straight into pissed-the-fuck-off at warp speed. I'm not at all the delicate sort (surprised?) at all; but crap on a cracker, I hate the asshats who go all Victorian sweet on you while they metaphorically bend you over for a rough screwing.

And don't you worry, I set those doctors on fire at the time. I went off-the-American-grid to the German Free University hospital for pre-natal care with my final Army pregnancy.

Germans treat pregnant women like Goddesses.

Nope, not surprised at all that you are not of the delicate variety. Neither am I, which is why I once detailed my abortion in honest/funny mode for the sake of females everywhere.

I've been pregnant somewhere around 6-8 times, minus the one abortion. When I conceive, I just *know* it. I've only managed to carry 2 of those to term. The others all aborted naturally around 5-6 weeks.

However, since I didn't take a pregnancy test (I refused to waste the money), I think only one of my doctors actually believed me when I said I'd been pregnant that many times. Because obviously HOW COULD I KNOW without teh Modern Technology!

Likewise 7 pregnancies that I am absolutely certain of, and I, too, get that "Uh-oh" without recourse to tests. I have three children, the last one born (I swear) by sheer dint of will since the docs had me on medication frakking guaranteed to abort any fetus.

Word to that. Will means SO MUCH MORE than western medicine is still willing to give it credit for.

One day after a trying event, I realized I actually did want a second child. I confessed as such to my husband, who was thrilled and suggested we practice immediately. He was lookin' forward to condomless sex. I'm allergic to latex, sheepskin didn't work for us, and poly condoms kept giving me infections because no matter how much lube we used, I'd get internal micro-tears all over the place. And birth control... yeah, we conceived our first child while I was on the patch. ;D

Needless to say, we conceived within the next day or two. And I don't like to be intimately touched while pregnant, so... bye-bye nookie for 11 months. *giggles* Poor man did a lotta masturbatin'.

Well, we should get the silver star for thread de-railment, lol.

Yes, every method of birth control save permanent ones failed with me. I am a fertility goddess, perhaps?

Pretty much just cells and stuff at that point.

I don't think there's a "soul" in there.

[personal profile] herlander_refugee 2011-06-29 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Even the bad old Days of the CAtholic supremacy didn't mcuh think so. Male embryos got souls at 40 days, earliest; and females were not so blessed till 80 days.

[personal profile] jdack 2011-06-29 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Haven't heard that one. That's... really cooky.

[personal profile] herlander_refugee 2011-06-29 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it WAS the Middle Ages, lol. They had more bugs in all the systems than cockroaches in Florida.

And back then, this is the kicker....it didn't matter if you aborted BEFORE the presumed ensoulment. There is that little thing of how one guesses whether it is male or female...but that is what astrologers were for, I guess.

The soul bit: More times than not I'd think you'd be correct.

Raven didn't start responding to external stimili (I.e. Mommy) until he was about 4 months - Micah, too.

Hell, with Raven he was so quiet I didn't even know I was pregnant until 11 weeks - the tail end of the first trimester.
