Ghostbusters 3 might actually happen.
Here's the thing. The first movie was good. It had some decent comedy, the special effects were pretty good for the time, and it held together. The second movie (IMAO), wasn't as good, but it wasn't a terrible sequel. But it came out five years after the original.
It's been twenty-one years since Ghostbusters II. Honestly, I have the feeling that if this weren't a comedy, we'd see the same sort of thing that happened with Indiana Jones and Kingdom of the CrystalSuck Skull. (Yes, yes, I know the movie made a ton of money, but in comparison to the other Indiana Jones movies, it stunk on ice, plot-wise. Yes, I'm including Last Crusade in the 'better than' category.)
Still, you never know. Maybe they will kill off Bill Murray's character in the first reel.
