I love my brain, but...

So I spent a good chunk of last night at work (after all the work had been finished) running Google searches, trying to remember the name of a series of sci-fi short stories and/or their author, using what little I could dredge up. (This search was predicated on seeing a sci-fi "best of" collection in the break room, which although sparking the memory, did not contain any of the author's work.)

Needless to say, while I could recall some minor details, the lack of any character names or the author's name made it futile.

Until I get home, sit down and start typing out a LJ request for help in remembering/finding this author.

And then my brain recalls the name of the alien world the stories take place on, and I find the author (and collection of stories) in a couple of minutes.

I love my brain, but why does it have to take so long to recover facts from stories I last read twenty years ago?

P.S. Janet Kagan's collection "Mirabile".

FElt really good when you finally remembered it though, didn't it? :)

Yup. Just ordered the collection from Barnes and Noble (I had a gift card).

I remember reading those shorts... In Asimov magazine, maybe?

Good series.

Maybe. Regardless, I ordered a copy of the collection.
