[WoW] The dumb continues

No source for this yet, but apparently, Blues (Community Managers) won't have their full names listed with their posts under this new plan.

.... because harassing/stalking employees of Blizzard is bad, mmmmkay? (With the attendant "But fuck you paying customers. There's tons of you.")

Edit: Okay, turns out to be wrong. Blues will have their names listed. It's still a fucking stupid plan, though.

I know it's on the EU forums, but I thought it might help you a little...

I saw what they did to one of my CS reps and I kind of got scared. If anyone comes after me, I can't be held responsible to the lengths I will go to to protect myself and my home.

I think they might change it once there's a case of stalking, assault or a murder. /sigh.

*nod* It's so fucking stupid though. I mean, if Blizzard employees need to see our full names on our posts, well, that's one thing. Broadcasting them for anyone and everyone, including people who don't even pay Blizzard for anything is asinine though. (And, I suspect, falls foul of Canadian and UK Laws.)

And their stated reason for doing this (to cut down on trolling) is complete and utter bullshit. Trolls won't give a fuck if someone knows their real name.

BTW, I don't support what happened to Bashiok, and if anything, I would hope it would serve as a wake-up call to anyone at Blizzard who supported this idea (which, I actually suspect is rather few of them).

Frankly, it's not so much that I mind my real name being out there on the Intertrons. It's that I specifically divorce my real life and my game life as much as possible. I would not mind Blizzard employees knowing my real name as part of my business interactions.

To an extent, I would not mind some fellow WoW players knowing my name.

What I mind is that anyone, even people who don't play any games that Blizzard has being able to see any posts I make on these new forums and link them to my real name. I don't go around carrying a big sign with my real name on it for all to see. There is no legitimate reason why my real name should be on my posts where I am complaining (for example) about the lack of items for Engineering in Cataclysm.

Unfortunately, I suspect that outside of some high profile case of gamer-stalking (or worse), or government intervention, that this policy will go into place.
