Steak!

It's what's for brunch.

And lunch.

And if I thought about it, I'd have defrosted another to cut into stir fry pieces.

I recommend buying a crock pot.

There is no cooking easier in the world. (Microwave isn't cooking.)

Plus your whole place gets to smell good during the 7-8 hour cooking time of whatever you threw in there.

*nod* At some point in the near future I am going to get a crock pot. After years of the whole "ugh, me bachelor. me eat microwave food and takeout." thing, I'm finally cooking for real. (For a given value of real, of course. I mean, these steaks were cooked on a George Foreman grill.)

Yeah same here. Got tired of bachelor chow.

Nothin' wrong with an indoor grill. I use a broiler in my oven for steak, basically the same thing. I don't have a covered patio so when it's raining, which is like, always, I couldn't use a real grill anyway.

*nod* I'm pretty sure getting a wok is next on my list of kitchen accouterments... actually, strike that, I want to get a decent knife block. I used to have one, and I have no idea what the fuck happened to it.

Knife blocks rule. I need one, my roommate took it when he moved out. Bastard.

Don't own a wok. Not sure why. Just don't crave stir fry very often I s'pose.

Ok... on the list of things you should get, if you don't already have them.

1) A cast iron skillet. At least 10 inches. Season it properly and keep it clean and dry.
2) Cutting boards. If you do a ton of cooking your are going to have 4 or 5, but for regular cooking, two will suffice.
3) A decent set of knives and a knife block (for organization, if nothing else).
4) A decent saute pan. At least 8 inches.

The rest you fill in as needed.

Got three cutting boards (one hard plastic, two wood), and a skillet (non-stick, but not cast iron). And like I said, probably getting a knife block next.

[identity profile] egearman.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Good. But do you know why multiple cutting boards?

[identity profile] kierthos.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't the slightest idea. Not that I am really eating much besides toast right now.

The breakdown is as follows:

Wooden:

Fruits and vegetables. Maybe have one for fruits and one for vegetables, but that's maybe going a little far.

Plastic:

Fish
Shellfish - just in case of allergy of guests
Poultry
Meat, with maybe a second for pork if you are really particular.

Now, as long as you properly clean and disinfect them, you should not have anything to worry about. Another important thing, especially for meats, it to not put cooked meat on something you used for raw meat. At least not without disinfecting first. So, if you used a cutting board to trim the fat off of a steak, grill it and then want to slice it up for fajitas or something, you will probably want two cutting boards (or be really good about cleaning it during the cook time of the steak).

what is this 'guests' thing you speak of?

In case Bobby Flay happens to come over and stands on one, you can beat him to death with the rest.

Ok... good secondary reason, but not the real reason.
