I mean, I know it gets it out of the wind. That's one thing. But people have body heat. I'm pretty sure fruits and veggies don't produce nearly as much heat. It just seems counter-intuitive to me.

It's also the inverse of the steam engine. The energy it takes to drop water through the transition point to ice is actually fairly large. Thus that energy is coming from the water not the orange and the ice freezes long before the orange.
