I'm on the side of the old lady

Rudy Park

See, I don't get e-readers. I mean, why would I want something with a tiny-ass screen so it's difficult to read, that can lose battery power so I can't read anything on it, and that I'd have to re-buy any books I wanted to read on it?

The argument for them goes something like "but you can put dozens of books on it instead of carrying around dozens of books". Well, yes, that would be an advantage IF I felt the need to normally carry dozens of books around. Shockingly, I don't haul dozens of books around, or have a team of sherpas to carry a large literary assortment.

Plus, even the cheap ones are a couple hundred bucks. Now, this doesn't make sense to me. "But it's new technology!" No, it's not. We have had these things called laptops for a number of years now. Why would I want to pay more for the junior woodchuck version that I can only read books on? (Yes, there's a version of the Kindle that runs more then some laptops. Why? I haven't the slightest clue.)

I will give Dave's Kindle this much credit: it came in damn handy when our flight got delayed in Miami airport, I'd run out of book and the only interesting things in the newsstand were those I'd already read.

Well, yeah. If you already have one, I'm not suggesting you throw it away. I personally don't see the point of them.

Actually the good ones keep your purchase history so if you lose stuff you can re download it.

I haven't used any official one but I've come to love the kindle app on my ipod touch. The font is sized and laid out for good readability and I dig $3.95 novels that I can get instantly without a trip to the store.

But I still prefer an actual book given the choice.

I have no need nor desire for a e-reader.

Heck, buy a decent cell phone and read e-books on that. Same pricetag, same functionality, but with added "makes phone calls" and "comes with own internet" features!

I have a cell phone. I only use it for calling/receiving calls. It has a camera on it. I don't use the camera. It can be used to sends tweets. I don't use it for that either. It's a PHONE! (Sorry, the massive bundling of every damn thing in a cellphone irritates me.)
