39 year-old man joins the Army so his wife's chemotherapy will be paid for.

Short version: Guy lost his job, his wife's got cancer, and when he had a job, his health care premiums were $136 a month. If he hadn't joined the Army, by January, he'd be paying $1,370 a month. Faced with that choice, and unable to find a job anywhere else... he's in the Army now.
