Oh lordie....

I'm not playing Champions Online, but I was checking something on their site, and I noticed that one of the NPC villains in the game is.... Foxbat.

For those who don't know, Foxbat was created for the Champions RPG system (pen and paper and dice) by accident (or so was related to me). You see, the game creators/designers were putting out a sourcebook containing a number of enemy NPCs (villains) for GMs to use. The only problem was, one of the characters on the cover was... Foxbat. Only he didn't actually appear in the book, all written up with stats and such. This caused a mild bit of concern, because hey, he's on the cover and all. He ought to be in the book.

"What do we call him?"
"You don't know? You drew him!"
"Well, his costume kinda looks like a fox. Or a bat."
"Fine, we'll call him Foxbat. What's that gun he's holding?"
"Um... it's a ping-pong ball gun."

So, you had a villain, sort-of, one of whose quotes is "Behold your doom, the Amazing Ping-pong Ball Gun! ... Why are you all laughing?"

And he's in the game.

Not only is he in the game, he's also in the starting zone, trapped under rubble, and when you free him you get a mission to locate his weapon's cache.

And what do you get as a reward? Foxbat's ping-pong ball gun.

You might like CO if you've given up on WoW, it's pretty good.

I have City of Heroes for my super-hero MMO fix right now. I'm looking forward to the Going Rogue expansion. (Dual Pistols. Woo!)

Foxbat is hysterical. Really, here at Cryptic we have a doll of him that goes to meetings. He's one of our favorite super villian idiots.

Should COH become tiresome, we'd be happy to have you beat Foxbat down as much you like.

As [livejournal.com profile] kierthos's brother, I will be accepting an invitation to Champions Online, as soon as my next paycheck clears.

However, I will, once again, for all the strange people out there, request that you let us create heroes that don't quite look so heroic.

Yes, I want to play a fat slob in a stained t-shirt and torn jeans. That's got to be more acceptable than just a speedo and a trenchcoat.

Once you're in poke me and we can hook up :)

So far I'm content to play this one. Not common for MMO's. I still find it weird that I love making them (and have worked on three) but I don't like playing them so much usually.

Well, the character creator is mighty, and the sliders allow for all kinds of disproportionate body mods, so my guess is, we can accommodate you.

Could you give him a cool mask? I mean, is that really too much to ask?

It's possible. :)

That's assuming I don't go with the idea I came up with last night...

Let me guess. The fat slob is a hero named Taco Belch.

What did you come up with last night?
