What made me chuckle is the ship is boarded by "police" who proceed to tie and beat up the crew. Then the ship *continues on*, because apparently this is an everyday thing for them to experience at the hands of the police, and then disappears a few days later.
I'm thinking either a setting for the next Bourne adventure - or perhaps just enough to wring a Law & Order plotline from.

2) More pirates.
3) Pirates put something on it to make it sink later.
4) Modern Marie Celeste (and then it sank).
5) Plague, fire and then it sank (into the swamp).
Release the Kraken!!!
