Fuck me, this might be real

Arlen Specter may be switching from Republican to Democrat.

Huh... if this ends up being real, I guess he's off the Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, and O'Reilly Christmas card lists.

And I wonder what The Daily Show's take on it will be?

See my latest post.

That's my prediction.

Or "Republicans, this is the sound of your party collapsing."

Or the sound of their party coalescing. There are plenty of body politic who actually do subscribe to the abhorrent views put forth in the various GOP state and the GOP national platform, and think that excluding debate is strength.

Mmmm... possibly. But I read somewhere (can't recall the link - it was some op-ed piece) recently that the last thing the Republican party needs is to become monolithic. It needs some dissenting voices and it needs to stop pandering to the religious right.

Of course, it probably won't do that, and unless Obama starts botching things on a level with the Commander Guy (aka Bush the Younger), the Republicans are not going to reverse their losses in the midterm elections.

For it to be a healthy political party in a healthy country, it needs dissenting voices and to stop pandering to the religious right.

So, you may or may not already know this, but I spent most of my senior year of high school writing an AP-level thesis on the rise to power of a particularly influential political party in the early part of the twentieth century during a worldwide depression that was artificially magnified for this particular country due to sanctions imposed after WWI.

They were monolithic, authoritarian, and pandered to religious bigotry and a body politic who felt entitled to an historic supremacy -- combined with astroturf 'grassroots' government/tax protestor movements and propaganda and pseudo-science masquerading as biology, and a focus on military might.

If this song is beginning to sound familiar to you, it's likely not a coincidence.
