another one bites the dust

Shadowbane is being turned off in early May. I know this affects all two of you still playing Shadowbane. :P

I never even heard of this game.

What made it different from Warcraft?

Well, it allowed for open PvP (you didn't have to go to certain areas to fight other players) and it had a much more dynamic world structure (you could build or destroy fortifications, modify terrain to an extent, etc.).

It could have been good, but it was plagued with problems at launch... back in early 2006 it became free to play, and was supported by ads (starting in 2007) when loading or closing the game, or dying (although if you died more then once in a 10 minute window, you wouldn't see the ads then).

Unfortunately, it apparently wasn't generating enough revenue from the ads to continue keeping the game going.
