Okay, this is strange

The sound is out on my computer.

Unless I'm testing the sound on the control panel. That is to say, if I have it play a test sound in "Speaker Properties" off of the Control Panel, I can hear the test sound. But if I'm trying to listen to anything on WinAMP or YouTube, or anything else... I get nothing.

It's fixed now. Apparently, the quickest way for me to successfully diagnose and resolve any problem on my computer is to post a complaint about it here on LJ.

Does your computer have an on-mother board sound card in addition to regular sound card?

Beats me. (I mean, I could look it up, but....) Anyway, I figured out what happened (I think). Somehow, the jacks on the front of the computer got set to be the default, instead of the ones on the back of the computer.

*nod* I have a laptop with a built in sound card where the mic input doesn't work right for some reason (I think I fucked up the drivers installing it, but whatever).

When I plug in my Soundblaster soundcard into it, sometimes things get automatically switched over to the Soundblaster card and I have to reset them.

1) Check to see if you have somehow muted the sound card as I believe the diagnostic programs sometimes bypass those.

2) Reboot.

3) Get your hearing checked.

Somehow, the front jacks were set to be the default sound inputs/outputs, instead of the back jacks.

The guilty will be flogged.

Could be worse, with Vista you have to not only tell it which jacks to use, but also what you are using them for for headphones/mic to work properly.

What happened to plug it in and let it work?

No shit. Still, there are remarkably few things that annoy me about Vista, considering all the bad press it gets.

People still use winamp?

[identity profile] kierthos.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I do. I like it, and I'm used to it. Besides, I don't need a lot of bells and whistles to play mp3s.

Usually works for me. :)

*nod* Now if only it worked for other things....
