[WoW] Recent things

Well, I've made Exalted with all the races of the Alliance, the Skyguard, and I'm working on Sporeggar as I have nothing better to do....

I've also learned I cannot solo Scholomance. I'm probably going to have to give a couple of the other classic dungeons a swing before too much longer, but I won't be sneaking into Ragefire Chasm any time soon, as not only are the Orgrimmar guards 5 levels higher then me, they don't seem to believe in Vanish. (Although removing all my equipment and Sprinting through the city remains an option...)

I have ordered Wrath of the Lich King already though, and I'm probably going to hold onto Engineering as a profession for at least a couple of months after the launch this Thursday. If for no other reason then to guarantee that I'll have something in the game to be mad about. (Other then the dodge nerf.)

We snuck through and got Stockades this week, it took a lot of corpse running, but wasn't that bad, and we got the fishing in Stormwind and Orgimmar achievement as well, it's pretty wild thing to do, especially when I made it to the bank is SW...

Tell me about the dodge nerf?

[identity profile] kierthos.livejournal.com 2008-11-10 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I'm not sure for the reason for the dodge nerf, but the forum gossip has it based on a level 80 character in the beta who managed to avoidance-tank Gruul thanks to really high stats and party buffs.

Apparently, this is not something Blizzard wants to see, so instead of doing something sensible like placing a cap on dodge, they modified the formula.

Previously, dodge was (outside of talents and racials) based on Agility and level (well, and class). As you increased in level, you needed more Agility to have the same dodge percentage.

Now, it's apparently also on a sliding scale. The first percentage point of Dodge from Agility costs so much. The second percentage point costs a little bit more, and the third costs a little more then that. And so on.

Anyway, what's happening is that instead of actually having your full dodge percentage as you see on your character sheet, you actually have a modified dodge percentage.

Real Dodge% = Base Dodge% + 1/(0.011347 + (.9560/(Character Sheet Dodge% - Base Dodge%)))

Where Base Dodge% is the dodge you have when you have no gear on, and character sheet dodge% is what it shows on your character sheet when you look at defenses.

In my case, I don't really have a dodge of 23.02% like it says in my character sheet. I really have a dodge of 21.44%

Not a huge difference at level 70, but it takes a little over twice as much Dodge Rating at 80 as it did at 70. The same probably holds true for Agility. So Rogues are going to see their Dodge percentage nosedive as they level unless they stay on top of the gear curve, and even then, it's going to be a lot lower.

I'm considering a naked Sprint through Orgrimmar on the day of the launch. Even if the guards aren't distracted by Wrath of the Lich King, the players should be.

Addendum: Now I have people telling me that the diminish return nature of Dodge only applies to Dodge Rating, not to Dodge from Agility. This is slightly better.

Still --
Yah, a heavy-handed nerf. >.<

I'm more worried about having enough hit rating at level 80, seeing as how Blizzard decided not to put any on the Wrath goggles for rogues. Yeah, it has a yellow socket, so guess what's going there.... but damn.

OTOH, there are some nice BOE rings in Jewelcrafting that I should have very little problem acquiring the materials for.

I haven't looked at anything for my tank yet...

If I were you I'd go through the side entrance, keeping to the northern wall through the Valley of Spirits, moving up towards the the Valley of Wisdom, there's an entrance to the Cleft of Shadows down there if you're going for RFC, if you want to do fishing... there are two pools, one in the Valley of Spirits, though this is also where the portal drops folks in Orgimmar, so there's fairly heavy traffic. The other pool is way back in the Valley of Honor, and the Battlegrounds leaders are in that area, so there's a fair amount of traffic there as well. I'd suggest running in and attempting to fish in the Valley of Spirits, near a little hut on the western edge where the first aid trainer is located. Avoid the Valley of Strength as much as possible, that's where the bank and AH are, there are also stealthed guards on the rooftops who will smack you around fast and hard.

*nod* I'm not even going to try and do fishing in Org until I get to 80th level. But I might do the mad dash to RFC tomorrow. Or Mauradon.

I can't do Uldaman without two other people though, damnit.

There's some really nice plate gear coming with Blacksmithing, and apparently, Blizzard is not making any of it BoP. I don't think this "no BoP" trend will last, because hey, Jewelcrafting already has some trinkets in Wrath that are BoP and most Engineering stuff... well, it's not BoP, but it effectively is, what with the Engineering curse and all.

Likewise, I have no idea how the hell I'm gonna sneak into IF and fish up Old Crafty for the achievement.
