that's not normal

For lunch I blew up a can of chili.

No, seriously.

Okay, check it. Campbell's makes this decent microwaveable chili. It's not the best in the world, but it works for a quick lunch. So, I peel the metal top off, put the plastic lid back on, double check how long I need to nuke it for, and actually set the timer on the microwave correctly, and start it up.

Then, I pop back into my room to check something. I'm gone from the kitchen maybe for 30 seconds when I hear "THUMP" followed by "THUMP THUMP".

WTF?

Go in, and check the microwave. The can of chili apparently in a fit of uneven heating, walked itself from the center of the microwave over to the back right corner and exploded. (For anyone who cannot grasp what I mean by an inanimate object walking across a surface, please place an uneven load in a top-loading washing machine, turn it on, and observe.) I spend the next five minutes cleaning chili out of the microwave.

The next can of chili, however, behaved itself.
