Yeah, he's going to irritate criminals into confessing by playing the same goddamned character he always does. "Hi (pause) I'm a cop. (pause) I wonder (pause) if you know anything (pause) about a murder? (stupid half-grin)"

He's only stepped outside of himself in Mr. Frost (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100161/). Yeah, there were still some of the Goldblume mannerisms but for the first time, I was focused on his character and wasn't watching Jeff Goldblume.

Saw the same thing with Will Ferrel in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0357413/). Now, I like Will Ferrel but just about all his movies are him still doing Will Ferrel from SNL. This is the only one where it's not Will Ferrel. Maybe it was the mustache?

Contrast these guys with someone like Alec Guinness or Johnny Dep. Every movie, they're totally different and you get the feeling you have never really seen the real person. That's acting!

I don't recall a whole lot of car chase scenes in Law & Order, but I'm sure they'd add one for that line.
