So, I want a new computer

I do not need a new computer. I just want one. (In the same vein that I want a new monitor but do not need a new monitor.)

I'm probably going to wait until after Christmas, though, before really seriously looking at different specs and such. In any event, I'm highly likely to go with Dell, because they will let me pay month by month.

I cannot warn strongly enough against using Dell financing. I fell into that trap because of a nice $23 / month deal a few years back. After like a year of payments I noticed my balance had actually gone UP.

That'd be because their deal was fucking 27% interest.

Much more advisable to get a 0% credit card and buy it using that. Same monthly payment options (depending on total balance of PC) and no interest (providing you read the fine print reeeel carefully.)

I got the computer I currently have (well, sans monitor, because the Dell one died after five years) from Dell, and I didn't have a problem with the payments or the balance going up.

Of course, I don't believe they actually had the "Dell finance plan" in the same form now as they did seven years ago. I do know that they didn't have a way to pay online then.

Just checked with Dell... they only do the monthly payment options for the Dell Preferred Account. And yeah, their interest rate goes as high as 27%.

So I may need another option for a new computer. Preferably some place that will let me pay monthly installments and isn't a giant rip-off.

I haven't found one that beats a 0% CC (much as I hate credit cards.)

I wonder what apple's financing is like... probably terrible.

Alienware is owned by dell now so.. and HP sucks. Hrmph.

Big Pockets (I think .com) is a good one... They did an ace computer for my boyfriend.

Should have gotten one at the Black Friday sales :-) (like me!)

And if I had a car, I might have tried that. As it stands, I am on one side of town, and every business that sells computers is on the other side of town.
