Whatever happened

to comic books that weren't part of some overwhelming arc or story?

No, really?

These days, in both Marvel and DC, you can't seem to go a month without the latest tie-in to some huge world-shaking arc. Okay, for some of those, it makes sense. Case in point, Marvel's Civil War. When you have something that affects all super-powered characters in the United States, yes, it should at least have some sort of mention in nearly all comics. (I could see non-U.S. based teams giving a fuck, however.) But the problem is, Marvel and DC seem to go from one major event to the next with no real downtime.

Civil War pretty much straight went into World War Hulk and One More Day and that's barely over (hell, One More Day isn't even over yet) and they're gearing up for the Skrull thing for this summer. On the DC side of things, it went from the shit that led into Infinite Crisis, to Infinite Crisis, to 52, to Countdown to Final Crisis (ongoing now), which is going to lead into Final Crisis.

And that's not counting all the stuff I'm missing.

Sooner or later, Marvel and DC are going to burn out all of their fans. There's only so many big changes and big storylines you can make before the fans just stop caring.

What is your server/character on CoH?

The server I'm on most often is Virtue.

My characters there are Sundown Man and Omega II.

Dr. TMI on Virtue.

I would love one month of just 'day in the life'. A break from metaplot being shoved down our throats and a chance to reconnect with the characters we love.

This is what sucks about currently being in a city too provincial to have a comics shop. I will agree with you on the big arc storylines, moving too fast. waht I was able to keep up with in civil war I found really intresting, and I would have rather had that explored fully before going into something else.

I'd heard a roumour about their being an new crisis out of DC over the summer, but i was hoping the run on that would also last longer before it ran into something else . .
