It is entirely intentional. They even said so on the first episode. I adore this show; just watching Ben Stein's facial expressions every time these folks open their mouths is worth it.

I saw a picture of how he looks right now.

The combo of the handlebar mustache and the wispee goatee thing do not work on him.
