You want to know something? I've never seen a complete episode of BSG at all. I caught the last half of the season finale, and decided to make an icon.
Yeah, see, that's one of the theories I'm playing with... that they're not Cylons but there is obviously some not-quite-understood connection between them and the Cylons.
Hell, Tyrol was 'proved' not to be a Cylon at least once, right? And Saul fought in the first Cylon war, where it's assumed that the Cylons didn't have humanoid models yet.
So there's some connection that we're missing/is being hidden.
Here's one of my theories. Take it for what you will.
The first Cylon war wasn't really the first Cylon War. It was the first in this current cycle. The 'hidden' Cylon humanoid models (who of course aren't the characters revealed in the season finale, despite what they said at the end of the episode) are the only ones who know the truth. That there was at least one iteration of the same events.
At some point in the past, the Cylons invaded, destroyed, and took over. Eventually, they found a way to interbreed with humans, and after many generations, the fact that the hybrids were hybrids was lost or supressed.
Time passes.
The humans create a series of robotic workers and call them Cylons. Eventually, the Cylons rebel and the first war (as far as the humans are concerned) happens. The Cylons leave, only to evolve into the humanoid models, so they can come back and invade, destroy and take over... again.
The whole time, the humanoid models from the previous (original?) iteration are guiding and shaping events for their own purposes. Perhaps the previous cycle(s) of events did not go completely as planned. Perhaps there was some facet of humanity that was not co-opted by Cylons that they believe can only occur in the events taking place now (in the series).
Whatever.
It's happened before. If the results don't match what the 'hidden' models need, they will do it all over again.
The problem with this theory is it smacks too much of the Matrix trilogy. Neo isn't the One. He's only the current One. Blah blah blah.
Right now I just have loads of questions. I guess we'll just have to wait 8 damned months to find the answers.
On the flip side, Drive starts soon, which stars Nathan Fillion. I'm not saying it'll be wonderful, but it should be something to tie up my Sunday nights while I'm missing some BSG. -Baker

But it's a theory.
