Start by being a nicer person?

Hint for gift cards?

Don't kill your co-workers, no matter how much they might deserve it by screwing everything up? (I heard more about the 'new' third shifter... I'm so sorry.... *snerk*)

Nicer? I'm not killing people with the awesome power of my mind. That isn't nice enough?

I'm thinking Best Buy gift cards are the way to go.

He's not a complete screw-up, but yeah, about the only reason I'm glad he's there is because he's someone I can throw at the counter to deal with the simpletons while I actually get work done. Although that's hardly fair. There's a number of things at work he can do correctly. It's just that there's also a number of things he can't. He also takes customer interaction a little too far. See, I'm at one extreme... assume they're idiots (and you'd be surprised how many people who wait until 2 a.m. to get copies or ship something don't fall into that), don't talk to them more then necessary, etc. He's at the other. I've tried to get the point across that it isn't necessary to have a ten-minute conversation with every customer, but it doesn't always sink in.

I believe he's already past the 90 days deliberation point, though, so he's staying unless he really drops the ball.
