This just in.

Pluto no longer a planet.

Crystal-gazing tree-hugging hippie astrologers flip the fuck out.

It's going to become a Dwarf planet. Along with Xena, Ceres, and the one other asteroid belt object.

Only the ones who don't know what they're doing. Whether or not humans consider something a 'planet' has absolutely no relevance to its position in astrology.

Which is complex as all fuck and doesn't actually mean the planets/et cetera *cause* or *effect* things, just that, for some reason, various bits of information regarding their positions relative to us and each other happen to corrospond to things dirtside. From that perspective and with that in mind it's actually quite an accurate, useful tool, though not for 'predicting the future'; at best you can use it to predict the general trends in a given period of time, and record information alongside known patterns skyside in order to form further corelations. It's more useful as a tool for introspection, self-analysis, and, with the right information and skill, learning about other people's basic nature.

The problems with astrology basically boil down to people forgetting or ignoring that corelation != causation, and even moreso, people trying to use it to do things it was never meant to be used for and claim it's something it's not. Especially when they claim to get results using it for stupid shit, especially Miraculous 100% Accuracy Predicting Minor Details of the Future. I can tell you about general trends in the population on a whole but I cannot tell you who the President will be in 2008 using astrology and anyone who claims otherwise either has no fucking clue what they're talking about, or they're a charlatan and a liar. Or both.

All that said, astrology is most definitely an insanely eccentric, hard-to-swallow sort of pursuit. It's just been right too often for me to dismiss it completely. And not in general ways, either. (Though I won't bore you with details unless you ask. :p)
