To all the anti-war people

First off, let me preface this rant by saying that I do believe you are entitled to your opinion. While I personally believe that Saddam Hussein needs to be taken out quicker then the slop buckets at a 24-hour liposuction clinic, I do realize that there are people who have valid reasons why the U.S. should not be over in Iraq to remove that cancerous mole on the face of humanity.

However, there are some anti-war protestors who seem to take it a step further. There are the hypocritical pacifists, who get violent when their statements are challenged. There are the, IMAO, borderline traitors who either went to Iraq or tried to go to Iraq to act as human shields. And there are the people who have called President Bush an "illegal president". (okay, quick side rant: Any of you fuckers who call Bush an "illegal president".... did you vote in the last election? No? Then fuck off. You'll have your chance to try again in 2004.)

Let me ask this: Do you think talking will get anywhere? Saddam has been brushing off UN resolutions and weapons inspectors for 12 years prior to this. He's killed or ordered killed hundreds, if not thousands of his own people in that same time. (Actually, according to one source, it's more like millions.... but hey, why let numbers get in the way of a good anti-war diatribe?)

Hussein has been proven to be supporting terrorist organizations, and giving money to the families of suicide bombers. Oh, that sounds nice, doesn't it? Helping out the poor families who now have one less person to help feed the family... Hey, Saddam, if you really wanted to help the Palestinians, you'd be helping all of them, just not the families of the demented fuckheads who think that blowing up a bus is a political statement. It's not, by the way. It's an act of terrorism, pure and simple.

I'm not expecting to change anyone's mind. Sure, there are people who say we're over in Iraq for the wrong reasons. There are also people who say we're over there for the right reasons. Guess what? Both are true. If we'd really been concerned about the Iraqi people, we would have intervened a long time ago. But if it was just about oil, we would have done something about that a long time ago too....

If all the anti-war people really, and I mean really want to make a difference, here's how: Donate blood. Donate money and/or time to charitable organizations that will help rebuild Iraq once this war is over. Vote. Yeah, vote. Because if you rail against the current administration, yet do nothing at all to try and change it when the opportunity presents itself, you've just shown how lazy you are. Real damn easy to chant a slogan in the middle of a crowd, but when the chips are down, and it's time to actually do something... well, let's see you actually do something.

You might want to give a listen to this as well:

Warning, there is some swearing (as I recall), so it's probably not the best thing to listen to at work.

Freedom of speech RE: your comments on Xambrius's LJ

If people weren't allowed to discuss killing/overthrowing their leaders, you would all still be speaking in a lovely British accent like me. ;0) Remember that before you start talking about restricting freedom of speech. It is your right and mine to criticise our leaders. Even verbally abuse them. It becomes illegal when I plan to actually do such a thing. However, say if President Bush decided he wasn't going to leave the office in a few years and decided to declare himself king, would you still say that you can't talk about overthrowing the government? This may seem like an overly simplistic argument, but it's a relatively simple matter IMHO.
