Went to the midnight showing on Thursday. The theater was pretty empty, but since we were seeing the 'non-3D' version, that may have been why. (As I am very right-eye dominant, trying to watch movies in 3D is largely pointless for me, not to mention that it generally gives me a massive headache.)

There was one "oh well, it's obvious that..." moment, and a couple of "but wait, there's no way" moments, but it wasn't a bad movie. The special effects were damned good (although I still insist that the special effects of the original movie do not hold up well, but they are still head and shoulders above most special effects of that era). The only special effect that was just a bit off was some uncanny valley shit at the beginning of the movie.

And yes, they did leave some things open for another sequel, which assuming that Tron: Legacy does not bomb at theaters, will probably happen.

I could do actual spoilers for the movie, but I'm not going to.

But now, the "important" stuff.

The trailers for upcoming movies.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides - Yes, Johnny Depp is still playing Captain Jack Sparrow. Yes, Geoffrey Rush is still playing Barbossa. And Keith Richards is going to be back as Captain Teague (aka Jack's father). And they're adding Ian McShane as Blackbeard. Apparently, the book that is the inspiration for this movie was also the inspiration for the computer game The Secret of Monkey Island, so well... awesome.

Green Hornet - You know, Seth Rogan is beginning to grow on me as Brett Reid. They seem to be setting this in the modern day, eschewing the 1930s/1940s origin of the character, but it looks like it could be good. Also, in the vein of the old TV series, it looks like Kato will be doing most of the ass-kicking.

Transformers 3 - Holy crap, this looks like it's going to be terrible. Michael Bay directing (lots and lots of explosions and historical inaccuracy).

Green Lantern - much like with the Green Hornet, Ryan Reynolds is growing on me as Hal Jordan. It looks like they're going to follow fairly closely to the comic book origin (somewhat reckless test pilot finds dying alien, etc.), but they are throwing some comedic elements in there. (Hey, it's Ryan Reynolds, what do you expect?) Luckily, it looks like Douchebag Lantern (Guy Gardner) is not going to be in the film at all. Sinestro looks to be the main villain.... although, based on something in the trailer, they might throw Hector Hammond into the villain mix as well.

Real Steel - Hugh Jackman in "Rock'em Sock'em Robots: the Motion Picture". No, I'm not kidding. No, really. I'm not.

So, three movies that look like they could be good, and two that are going to stink on ice.

The Senate got off their ass and repealed DADT.

A New York priest was actually defrocked for abusing a child.

Of course, the abuse happened in the '70s, the charges were brought eight years ago, and the defrocking happened.... today. So, obviously, no one can say the Catholic Church isn't serious about the whole thing.

They're just not very fast about it either.
