North Korea gets pissy about U.S. defending Hawaii.

No, seriously. They are.

From the article: "North Korea criticized the U.S. on Monday for positioning missile defense systems around Hawaii, calling the deployment part of a plot to attack the regime and saying it would bolster its nuclear arsenal in retaliation."

Seriously, what the fuck?

Okay, back in April, North Korea did a rocket test, and last month, they had an underground nuke test. When the U.N. put sanctions on them for this, the reaction from North Korea was appropriately insane: threats of war, and promises to expand their nuclear capabilities.

Never mind that most of the North Korean population is starving. Let's spend money on nukes!

As part of these U.N. sanctions, North Korea is banned from selling arms and weapons-related material to anyone. There is currently at least one ship, the Kang Nam, on the seas, suspected of carrying such items to Mynamar. But if anyone intercepts that ship, why, that's a declaration of war (again, according to North Korea).

So, let's review thus far:

Action: North Korea does shit the rest of the world thinks is bad.
Reaction: U.N. sanctions against North Korea.
Reaction to that: North Korea continues to act like heavily armed drunken rednecks.
Reaction to that: Concern by all other parties.

Latest action: North Korea plans to launch missile in direction of Hawaii.
Reaction: A ground-based missile intercept and radar system moved to Hawaii. (It's not like we're going to float the system over to NK on a rowboat.)
Reaction to that: North Korea continues to lose it's shit.

Seriously, unless China comes down on them like a ton of bricks, I don't see this ending well. China is about the only country who could really force North Korea to do anything, and even then, Great Leader (aka the current nutbag in charge, Kim Jong-il) may have either so completely lost his goddamned mind as to not care, or he might not even be really in charge any more, what with all the rumors of him having more then one stroke.)

I can fairly safely assume, though, that if the North Korea missile comes within really close range of Hawaii, that shit will get shot down. I don't see Obama or the U.S. military taking too many chances with that kind of thing.

Edit: (Possible update) Hrm... Coincidence?
