Okay, it's getting to be summer, and this is the Deep South, so it's disgustingly hot and humid. And of course, my apartment is a heat trap.

To top it off, I don't have a working air-conditioner.

Now, I talked to the building people, and an AC unit would be $15 a month, which I feel I can spring for, just to be comfortable. That's not the problem.

The problem is, I have a non-working AC unit. Window-mounted. And I can't get it out. I've been told that for liability reasons, the maintenance people can't remove it. (which I sort of understand... it's one thing if they get hurt doing repairs on the apartments or other stuff owned by the building... it's another thing entirely if it's my personal property.)

So, I have to remove it. But I can't. The damned thing won't budge. I can't get the window it's in open any further, and it's got a good eight inches of clearance left. I have the feeling if I could get the window open, even my scrawny, under-muscled self could leverage the thing out of the window (without dropping it seven stories) so the maintenance people could put in the new one.

Blargh.

I should not need power tools to open a goddamned window.

Talked to the head maintenance guy. According to him, he has to remove it and I shouldn't even try to. So, hopefully, middle of next week at the worst, I will be cool and comfortable again.
