I was busy at work when the red ticket arrived at my desk. It had been months since anyone in my department had gotten a red ticket, so it caused no small amount of attention. Yellow tickets, misdemeanor crimes, were still somewhat common, but the Bureau of Crime Statistics review last year had lowered red ticket crimes, felonies, significantly.

Still, it was my red ticket, and my duty to see it through. Anything else would be unpatriotic. Scanning the code at my desk terminal, the return information told me that I was going to be the victim of a violent assault and robbery near a bar I frequent after work most days. Fortunately, it looked like the hospital time would be minimized, which was just as well, with the Heyndrich account going active at the end of the month.

A few co-workers stopped by to offer some early sympathy, and Tim Myers, from Human Resources came by to let me know that my insurance was up to date. Coincidentally, he had received a red ticket last year, and gave me a few hints on how to deal with it. The important thing was to be on time, and in the general vicinity. And he mentioned something not in the BCS guide. If, for whatever reason, the crime does not take place as scheduled, remain at the location until the BCS police branch operatives show up. They will resolve any hesitance on the part of the criminal themselves. Good advice, as I probably would have headed back to the bar to call the local BCS office instead of staying put.

After that, I headed to lunch, resolving to get a good bit of work done. I was going to be out of the office for a couple of days, and I didn't want the work to be too piled up. It could be worse, though. I mean, at least the crime rate is going down.
