So, I'm a bit of a doofus

Walk to the bank... it's sprinkling a bit, and a bit cold, but hey, I need to deposit my paycheck. Get to the bank, it's closed.

Why? Today is President's Day. *facepalm* See, this is one of those holidays that you only remember when you're a student (grade school or college), or if you're waiting for an appliance or car sale to come up. I'm sure Lincoln and Washington would be thrilled to know that they are being remembered on a day better known for "Prices So Low, They're INSANE!!!!"

Oh well. Bank tomorrow.

hrm... there are these things called "Automatic Teller Machines" you put in a plastic card, punch in a few numbers, tell it how much you are going to deposit, put your deposit in an envelope, feed it to the machine, tell it you're done, and get your card back. The bank will then have your money, and usually, they'll credit at least part of it to your account immediately.

Or did I slide back to 1981 without realizing it?

No, you didn't. I don't trust giving one of those machines my paycheck. I would much rather hand it over to a teller and deal with a person then a machine. Yes, it works perfectly for everyone else. It would break down and somehow shred my paycheck, though.
