Actually, forest fires are good for woodland areas, if they are allowed every 10 years or so.

Otherwise, the flamable material builds up and up and up, until there is a fire that can't be contained/controlled, that burns much longer and hotter, killing off everything.

Controlled burns, environmentalist whinging aside, are a good thing.

The point I was trying to get across is that a lot of these funded studies are telling us things we already know. Tsunamis could be dangerous to L.A.? We better fund that study to find out for sure....

The point of these things is not to show that they would cause damage; that's a given. They are trying to calculate how much damage.
