[cam-shit] An unforeseen side-effect?

One of the recent additions to the Addendum (wait, this is really starting to look like a rules-supplement, guys) for the Requiem game is that any custom bloodlines must have a PC founder, rather then the possibility of an NPC founder.

I agree that someone must be the founder of a bloodline. It stands to reason that someone had to be the first one to realize the potential of their blood along a certain path.

But why must it be a PC? What is wrong with an NPC bloodline founder? Am I missing some tangible argument that passed stealthily in the night?

Furthermore, what, I ask you, is keeping someone who is, say, MC 5 (which I believe is the minimum to start at BP 6, based on character creation experience), from taking a bloodline founder, starting the bloodline at some point back in history, getting the bloodline approved (and thus getting it in play for others), and then killing off the character in the backstory before even playing a single game with him? And then go on to make a new character?

Hrm? What then?

And yes, given the seemingly arbitrary nature of this rule (again, if I have missed a tangible argument for the necessity of this rule, please, someone (like, say, Alex T) enlighten me), if I had MC 5, I would do this as a benefit to those members of the organization who want to be part of a custom bloodline, yet don't have the MC among them to be the founder. Alas, I am but MC 4.

Alas.

I will now pause briefly while you all consider the ramifications of sacrificing a primary character for 1.3 seconds in order to assist the game in moving along more smoothly.

Hmmm...
Haven't read the addendum yet.
Don't have the floon to do so at this point.

But -
Do you have to have Blood Potency above 6?
Or just the MC, with lower Potency representing having fallen back into Torpor.

Currently, to come into play with a custom bloodline, as the _founder_, you have to have purchased up to BP 6.

The option is there for people to cross off BP to represent torpor time, but we all know how likely that is....

Mind if I copy this over to my journal?

By all means. Credit me, of course.

You know....I'm being audited for MC5 right now....
I'd be tempted to test your theory out if there were others interested in a bloodline and just lacked a founder. I could entertain the idea of sacrificing a character for the good of the story.

A warning...

Some people, who have apparently too much Cam-time on their hands, consider it a shockingly bad idea to sacrifice a character for the good of the story. (For some reason, they think that a character that is willingly killed in such a manner as I describe is an amazingly cheesy idea, but see nothing wrong with (as an example) a gank squad taking down the same exact character five minutes after it enters play...)
