Just a reminder

On Monday, upwards of a quarter of a million computers might lose their internet access.

You can go here to find out if your computer is infected and what to do if it is.

comments

So long Eudora. You don't seem to work under Windows 7.

Using Mozilla Thunderbird instead.

And downloading LotRO. City of Heroes, and the various Steam games will be after that.

comments

Hrm...

It's at that stage where getting a new computer might be cheaper then upgrading the current one. I'll have to talk to one of my friends about this.

(To note, I would be upgrading for computer gaming purposes. I have the feeling, based off of my limited beta weekend experience, that The Secret World would run much better on a higher-end computer.)

comments

I have stalked the wild bad RAM and bearded it in it's lair!

(I think.)

So, looks like one of my 1 GB sticks of RAM is bad. It has been pulled and further observational testing awaits. (In other words, if my computer doesn't crash in the next several hours/couple of days, I've probably 'fixed' the problem.)

But it had to be one of the 1 GB sticks. It couldn't be one of the POS 512 MB sticks, noooooo.....

P.S. Firefox, I'm still not happy with you, even if you do put the browser tabs in the right place. You're still a goddamned memory hog. I may download you again if you fix that.

comments

*sigh*

Okay, something is still wrong with my computer.

It's not Blue-screening any more. Nope. Just crashing outright. Just shuts down.

I can restart it in safe mode, and then restart in normal mode from there and it works fine for hours, or even a day or more, but it does crash again... that's pretty much guaranteed.

I guess I have to run memtest again, see if it is the RAM. It's possible that the test I ran earlier only checked the first stick of RAM.

comments

I can't be certain...

but the computer crashing all the damn time seems to have been related to Firefox after all.

I have uninstalled Firefox (using Chrome now), and it hasn't crashed since. Also, obviously, I am able to use Chrome, whereas earlier, it would just immediately crash.

Now, I knew there was a huge fucking memory leak in the 3.6.* build of Firefox, but I had been using it for months before this problem.

Bizarre.

Oh, also, I do not have the flu. The doctor suspects it is just a very bad cold.

comments
